EGH welcomes students from around the world to join a diverse community of faculty, staff and students. If you're an international applicant, we're here to help.
Getting Ready to Apply
First, review the general application instructions. Since it can often take more time for documents from institutions in other countries to be received, we recommend that all of our prospective international students begin their application process early.
International applicants must take into account the following considerations to ensure that their applications are complete:
The University of Florida requires proficiency in spoken and written English and accepts the results of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) the Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB) or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS). The university’s TOEFL code is 5812.
- TOEFL: 550 (paper test); 80 (internet based)
- IELTS: 6
- MELAB: 77
- Please note: The TOEFL ITP is not accepted for admission purposes.
You are exempt from the English proficiency requirement if you are from one of the following countries.
All international applicants must submit a World Education Services (WES) evaluation, http://wes.org in lieu of official transcripts.
Costs and Visa Information
The university requires proof of financial support for the first year of study. Refer to projected international student tuition. An additional $6,000 is required if you are bringing a spouse and $2,500 for each child who may accompany you.
Please make copies of the certificate of financial responsibility for your records and for use at the U.S. Consulate. You cannot be issued the I-20 until you provide financial confirmation indicating full coverage of the estimated total cost of your educational and living expenses. You will receive instructions on submitting these documents after admission.
We will be happy to work with you to provide any resources you need to help you achieve a smooth transition if you are accepted to one of our programs. Please feel free to contact us with any questions. Members of our student council will be glad to assist you in finding a place to stay here in Gainesville and facilitate meetings with your fellow students.
Please also take a look at what our International Center has to offer. They will be able to guide you through the process of obtaining your Visa and their website also offers many resources for estimating costs, housing, and more.
