MPH in Environmental Health

The University of Florida Master of Public Health in Environmental Health is a CEPH accredited public health degree program focused on improving health by preventing, identifying, tracking, and mitigating environmental risk factors. Our curriculum addresses a diverse range of environmental issues that concern individuals and communities. Courses and other educational experiences are carefully structured to enable students to develop competence in very specific environmental health skills. The program offers particular depth in the effects of hazardous materials on human health and the environment through courses in toxicology and risk assessment.

Students may complete the MPH in Environmental Health degree in a traditional, 48-credit program, or our accelerated 42-credit program. The accelerated MPH program is available for current health professionals with terminal healthcare degrees or who have already established themselves in a long term career and are interested in expanding their skills or changing their career focus. Applicants with a US-awarded, health-based doctorate degree may request the online accelerated 42-credit MPH program.

In addition to core public health courses taken by all MPH students, in the Environmental Health concentration, students will take general toxicology, toxic substances, human health risk assessment, risk communication, exposure assessment and global health courses. Included in the concentration core are courses on air pollution, water pollution and wastewater management, and food sanitation and safety where public health activities are guided by federal and state laws and regulations.
